25 moments that shaped us in 2025 – MagrowTec Australia

For MagrowTec, 2025 marked a breakthrough year in Australia. What began as growing interest in magnetic-assist spraying translated into real-world validation – through on-farm trials, client results, and hands-on demonstrations that proved how improved droplet behaviour can lift coverage, reduce drift, and deliver better outcomes from every spray pass.

As our presence matured, the year became defined by momentum: stronger regional footprints, deeper engagement with growers and advisors, and a growing body of evidence showing what precision spraying can achieve in Australian conditions.

Proof on Farm

(1) One of the most powerful drivers of adoption in 2025 was on-farm proof. At Eastbrook Farms in South Australia’s Adelaide Hills, MagrowTec’s retrofit magnetic-assist system transformed Scott Samwell’s Brussels sprout spray operations. The result was a 25 per cent reduction in water use, improved productivity, and extended spray windows – protecting more than 2.5 million plants supplying major retailers year-round.

(2) Similar outcomes were seen across diverse cropping systems. On Queensland’s Darling Downs, long-time mixed cropper Jan La Frenz adopted MagrowTec to improve spray efficiency across cotton, cereals and legumes. The simplicity of the non-electronic system ensured consistent canopy coverage, helping maximise tight spray windows while supporting productivity and sustainability.

3) In northern NSW, agronomist and grower Byron Birch began scientifically testing MagrowTec across wheat, chickpeas, sorghum and cotton. Early trials showed improved canopy penetration, more uniform droplet distribution, reduced drift and measurable cost savings – reinforcing confidence in the technology’s agronomic value.

(4) Formal trials further strengthened this evidence base. In April, benchmark spray coverage trials were conducted at “Morven” near Bellata, NSW, using UV tracer testing in dryland cotton. The MagrowTec system outperformed conventional booms, delivering more precise, efficient spray coverage under real-world conditions.

Growing capability on the ground

(5) As adoption increased, MagrowTec invested heavily in strengthening its Australian footprint. In March, Karen Thomas joined the team as Australian Business Development Manager, based in Mildura and leading Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia. With nearly 30 years’ experience in agronomy, spray equipment and dealer management, Karen played a key role in expanding on-ground support and industry engagement.

(6) Later in the year, Craig Moynihan also joined the Australian team as Business Development Manager for Western Australia. Bringing more than 25 years’ experience in agtech and precision spraying, Craig has been strengthening dealer networks and grower support across broadacre grains, horticulture and cotton, to ensure MagrowTec’s technology is backed by local expertise.

(7) Alongside these new hires, MagrowTec also launched a dedicated Australia and New Zealand Facebook page in 2025, to enable more direct, localised engagement with growers and industry partners across the region. https://www.facebook.com/MagrowtecAustralia/

Industry engagement and live demonstration

A defining feature of 2025 was MagrowTec’s visibility at major industry events, where growers could see magnetic-assist spraying in action. Throughout the year, the team showcased technology at:

(8) FarmFest in Toowoomba,

(9) Hort Connections in Brisbane,

(10) Future Ag Expo in Melbourne, and

(11) AgQuip in Gunnedah, engaging with broadacre and horticulture producers around improving spray coverage, reducing drift and lifting input efficiency.

MagrowTec also featured strongly at machinery field days across the country, including in the

(12) Mallee,

(13) Yorke Peninsula,

(14) Henty,

(15) Newdegate and

(16) Dowerin, consistently demonstrating how retrofit magnetic-assist systems can improve outcomes without electronics or moving parts.

(17) In Tasmania, Karen Thomas presented at the FarmX Conference & Expo, delivering a thought-provoking session titled “Sprayers today? They’re not broken… they’re just not efficient,” challenging conventional thinking around spray performance and waste.

(18) Hands-on Ride & Drive Demo Days in Queensland, held alongside the Stara Imperador sprayer, allowed growers to see real-world improvements in coverage and drift reduction under operating conditions – reinforcing confidence in practical application, not just theory.

MagrowTec also participated in collaborative industry initiatives, including the

(19) Resilient Farming Workshop at Bellata with TEKFARM,

(20) B&W Rural and Thomas Elder Sustainable Agriculture,

(21) the Gatton AgTech Showcase as part of Queensland’s Smart Farm initiative, and

(22) the Crop Consultants Association annual seminar in Dubbo NSW, highlighting the role of agtech in building resilient, efficient production systems.

Global footprint grows with recognition for results, return-on-investment and evidence

(23) MagrowTec achieved a new 97.5% drift-reduction recognition in the Netherlands at a 25 cm nozzle width, in addition to our existing recognition at 50 cm. Granted by the Technische Commissie Techniekbeoordeling (TCT), this milestone means MagrowTec is now listed twice on the Dutch drift-reduction register.

(24) Our founder and CEO, Gary Wickham, explained to listeners of the US-based Farm+Food+Facts podcast how spray assist technology is helping farmers reduce input costs, minimise downtime, and ask smarter questions of their agronomists.

(25) We installed new units worldwide: from Michigan to the Mornington Peninsula, from the Netherlands to New Zealand, covering potatoes to chick peas, cotton farms to cereal cropping, and leafy greens to wheat.

Looking ahead

By the end of 2025, MagrowTec had firmly established itself as a trusted precision spraying partner for Australian growers. With a growing body of data, expanding dealer networks and increasing grower confidence, MagrowTec looks forward to a full calendar in 2026 helping Australian and New Zealand growers get more from every spray, every time.
